Happy to see 24×7 emergency and health services as Mumbai gets celeb vet Dr Umesh Karkare’s seven-storey clinic Happy Tails in Chembur. Client list of Happy Tail includes Ratan Tata, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, among many others. The clinic has Emergency Critical Care Centre that offers some of the best facilities to our furry friends, which include operation theatre and diagnostic centre as well as other facilities for critical care, emergency medicine, oncology, pathology, haematology, dermatology and dentistry.
Happy Tails’ special 24×7 nature of the clinic, let’s say the ICU in particular, is a big relief for pet parents for the fact that we find a vet in attendance in case of emergency. The clinic takes care of all emergency cases such as dog being hit by car, cat who fell off a balcony while chasing pigeons, right in the middle of the night. Similarly, CGS at DLF Phase-III in Gurugram is yet another highly-equipped pet hospital, which will have CT scan machine for pets. Normally, CT scanning of pets these days is done in machines meant for human patients. In this, the new pet CT scan machine at CGS will help vets conduct surgical approach easier and faster. In-patient facility of this hospital accommodates around 20 dogs and it boasts facilities like boarding, grooming service, in-house pharmacy and separate microbiology and pathology labs.
For the welfare of our stray buddies in the capital city, Delhi government has decided to partner with the municipal corporations in a move to double the number of dog sterilisation units. Delhi HC has constituted a joint committee of officials from the department, civic bodies and the Animal Welfare Board to find the solution to cut down stray population. Kudos to the committee for listing 17 veterinary hospitals where new sterilisation centres will be opened!
There are other areas where our supervision required for the welfare and safety of our furry buddies. For example, pet parents should be careful in selection of toys for their pets. There is no doubt to say ‘Dogs love their toys’. In spite of all this love, dogs often tend to destroy their toys, driven by their natural instinct, not by cruelty. Sometimes, dogs love squeaky toy as it makes them feel they are hunting their prey. Ripping their toys is a combination of play and hunting. After all, pet parents should be careful while giving toys to their pets, making sure the furry buddies don’t swallow it. Let’s give our pets only safe toys to play with. This is a work of love and passion for us.
