Kindness, Festivities & Paw-Parenting with Passion
As festivities have started and will continue, do take care of your pets at home and this kindness should be extended towards our dear ones on the streets- who are vulnerable and can only depend on a few kind heart humans. This reminds me of my little CHOTU, who I nurtured for two years (in college), but as I had to move away – there was another lady who took Chotu in her care, Chotu lived a great life till he was 2 +, after that somebody hurt him really bad on his legs. He was put in an Organisation to recover, the pain he experienced really changed him. Earlier he used to walk as if he owned the world- but time and experience taught him different. One could see that Chotu was humbled he had changed, he now wanted to come home. Earlier it was romp in the streets with his lady love but now he wanted a home, he wanted refuge. So much of love to give, and just wanted to be loved in return. Because here I saw a dog who was so beautiful and gentle but time and cruelties won. When I think of Chotu, I can really say- to err is human and to forgive- Canine. Chotu died at a young age of 4 years and 7 months, there are so many Chotu’s who need your love care and attention. So, gear up- give them all kindness, love, care, affection and most important your time!
Our pets at home do go through different feelings depending on their health and our behaviour towards them. In cases where the families are attentive is indeed a beautiful life as you can see it in the pet’s behaviour, look and demeanour. In homes where this is not the case one also get to know because of display of certain behaviour of the pet- as they say there is never a bad pet but a pet parent who does not understand their pets! It is indeed very important before bringing the pet home you need to commit to 10 to 15 years that you are going to take care of them with utmost care.
On a recent event in Delhi a session, titled “Shaping the Future of the Pet Food Industry,” with other experts was Geeta Seshamani, CEO, Friendicoes SECA- who emphasised the importance of sensitising children on welfare and being kind towards animals. I truly think this is very important, it can start with small acts of kindness, sensitising and awareness. Parents & Schools can play a major role in this. We did run a project called Friends FurEVER in Delhi schools and it was met with great excitement with students and teachers. Students of all age group were so excited to learn about Hachiko, the various things a dog can do in the human society to help humans, need and care of pets and most of all how a child can also keep themselves safe around pets.
