Sparkle and I used to talk a lot both with woofs & words and sometimes completely just our body language used to speak volumes. Body language of a pet is a very strong indicator of their mental health – which needs to be taken care. Depending on the situation pets can feel low, sad and depressed and it at this point we as family and pet parents should step in and see what the problem is. The reasons can be varied depending on the situations at home but if you ever notice that your pet is lethargic and sad- do get them first examined by your vet. And if medical possibilities are ruled out try and understand different situations which might be bothering their beautiful heart and try to find a solution to get them smiling again. Most important is to give them time love affection, always communicate with them and never make them feel ignored, this only adds to their sadness.

I recently read about Waghya (tiger in Marathi) who was the mix breed pet of the Maratha king Chhatrapati Maharaj, there is a statue of Waghya at the King’s samadhi at the Raigad Fort. It is said that he jumped into the Kings’ pyre as a mark of his eternal devotion and loyalty!

Endurance · Fidelity · Intelligence is scripted on Balto’s statue’s plaque at Central Park (New York). There is also an animated film on him which was made in 1995. The statue was unveiled on 15 December 1925 and made by Frederick George Richard Roth, one of the important guests were the real Balto himself. Balto had been a heroic lead dog who along with a team of mushers and sled dogs travelled 674 miles to deliver medicine while battling a blinding blizzard. The medicines needed to be delivered to Nome Alaska in 1925.

We all know about Hachiko who waited for 9 years and finally died in 1935 at the Shibuya station Tokyo waiting for Prof. Ueno to return, the Prof. had died while teaching in college. You can see Hachiko’s statue at Tokyo’s Shibuya Station.

Fido an Italian dog waited for Soriani to disembark from the bus stop, sadly Soriani had been killed in the second world war. Fido went daily to the bus-stop to wait for him for the next 14 years . 1957 while Fido was still alive a monument was commissioned and was placed in Piazza Dante in Borgo San Lorenzo which said- A FIDO, ESEMPIO DI FEDELTÀ (TO FIDO, EXAMPLE OF LOYALTY)
