Pure heart and resolute will!

With a pure heart and resolute will, even the universe must rewrite its judgment.

If you are a pet parent or an animal lover, you would most likely be aware of the recent ruling passed by the Supreme Court. Rising dog bite cases throughout Delhi, NCR, and rabies casualties led to this ruling that was passed on August 11 th , 2025. The ruling directed that all stray dogs in Delhi and the NCR should be rounded up and permanently confined to shelters. The order granted eight weeks for its implementation, which means that the Supreme Court wanted that within 2 months the streets of Delhi should be free from strays.

The directive triggered mass protests not just in Delhi, NCR, but throughout the country. We came together to become the voice of the voiceless. Legal challenges argued that the Animals Act, 1960. Authorities also lacked the infrastructure to house such a large number of dogs safely.

After 11 days of struggle and social media outrage, the court order was revised by a three- judge bench.

  • Stray dogs, once sterilized, vaccinated, and dewormed, must be released back to their original locations, in accordance with ABC Rules.
  • Exceptions: Dogs showing aggression or symptoms of rabies are to be kept inshelters—not released.
  • Feeding Restrictions: Authorities must identify dedicated feeding zones in each municipal ward; feeding stray dogs on streets outside such areas is prohibited and may invite action.

A strong credit goes to Kapil Sibal, who was a robust force in arguing for animal rights. He highlighted that mass relocation was not the answer to this problem, as we don’t have enough shelters.

This revised order seemed to be a win for not just our strays, but for the entire community. We have always preached and practiced coexistence in our culture, and this is an important part of it. Yes, rabies is a looming danger, and we need to take steps to curb it.

This humane ruling pave a path of hope that voiceless strays can be a part of our society and hearts with nothing but love and affection.
