Do you have an Indie love-story?

For me -it’s a big Yes! Over the years, have shared my life and have some beautiful memories of dogs who were happy to see me and – I more too! Chotu, used to be smuggled into my room as a teenager, Cranky always calling out and trying to share his hardships by his loud vocals, mostly with endearments, Starry was a shine at another level, always confident and super expressive. As we crossed the parking area- his affection for me and my son was heart-warming, being a big dog, he used to put his weight on our legs and go twirling around us. His brown eyes another story to tell. Both me and my son enjoyed, Starry’s love and affection. He also had other people in our colony who he adored and would go and rest outside their apartments and happily every evening when the gentleman was going for a walk, I would see Starry- merrily like a little horse prancing alongside him. As if to say- see I also have someone by my side! Currently I have two beautiful souls, who wait for me in our parking area, and moment they hear me they come to greet me whichever time of the day it might be. All they need is just a little love!

All this sounds nice but the reality is dark! The suffering endured by stray animals is beyond compare. As they say the world is not a kind place and this is definitely the truth. There are many horror stories we have noticed, seen and heard. And for a life to survive in the city jungle is extremely tough. At every breath life is challenged with many difficulties. It is the immense resilience of our Indies which keep them going yet hopeful for just a little bit of love and kindness.

The question is how can we come ahead with kindness and compassion:

If you feed a street dog, check whether your locality has a designated feeding point (as required by the Court). Avoid feeding outside those zones if your municipality has started enforcement.

If you spot an injured or aggressive dog, call the helpline of a welfare NGO.

If you have a street dog around your home, get in touch with a veterinary or NGO for sterilisation/vaccination drives where possible.

Spread awareness about vaccination and sterilisations in your respective locality.

Support shelters and local NGOs – as they are the true soldiers who work for welfare.

Our indies walk our streets, share our spaces, and, in many ways, carry our stories. Let’s make sure our shared future is kind, safe, and thoughtfully managed. Do write- in and share your Indie Love Story! Join us on our Facebook and Instagram pages to celebrate our Precious Paws- today and every day!
