As pet parents, we know the importance of our pet’s safety and well-being. During this time of the year, when the festive spirits are high and we are all busy celebrating with our friends and family, our pets may feel stressed and anxious.

By creating a calm and cozy environment at home, you can help your cat feel secure through all the cheer. Cats are highly sensitive to noise, flashing lights, and even routine changes. Add to that the sounds of fireworks, sudden movements, and extra household activity — and it’s easy to see why your cat might be on edge.

Follow these simple and effective steps to keep your feline friend calm and stress-free during this festive time!

Your Pet’s Sanctuary –

Safe and Secure

Cats naturally seek small, enclosed spaces when they feel stressed. It would be a great idea to set up a quiet spot with her favorite blanket, bed, or box in a room away from noise. This “safe zone” will help her feel secure. You can also play calming ambient music.

Cut the Noise – Keep Doors and Windows Closed

Shut the doors and windows, and if possible, keep the curtains drawn to block out not just loud sounds but light flashes as well. Your cat will feel safe indoors, and it will prevent triggering panic attacks and anxiety, especially for kittens, old cats, or unwell cats.

Purr-sonal Space Matters

Just like some days you want to be a cocoon and keep to yourself, the same is true for our feline friends as well. With increased activity and a disrupted routine, your cat may prefer to keep to herself. Don’t force her to mingle with guests visiting. Let her choose who she wants to interact with.

Distraction is Key

Engage her with puzzles, toys, scratch posts, and indoor games to distract her from the noise and hustle-bustle. You can also put puzzle feeders and catnip toys, as they work wonders.

Treat with Caution

We know you cannot resist those eyes, but be cautious with the treats you are giving your pet. Stick to their treats, and that too in limited quantity. Human foods like biscuits, sweets, chocolate, raisins, and nuts, and oily foods are a strict ‘NO’.

Update Identification

In this digital era, why should our pets be left behind? Scared by the loud noise, cats may run out unexpectedly. To keep your pet safe, make sure she is microchipped and is wearing a collar with an updated ID tag.

Mask the Noise

Soft ambient music, white noise, or even the hum of a fan or AC (if it is hot enough in your city) can mask the noise of firecrackers or a DJ and make your pet feel calm and at ease.

Zen Mode Activated

Keep your calm and try to maintain your pet’s routine of walks, food, and grooming. You can use pheromone sprays and natural diffusers for cats to create a soothing vibe. For extremely sensitive pets, it would be best to get in touch with your vet. He/she can recommend some supplements or medications.

Relax, Purr, Repeat – festivities are all about love, warmth, and togetherness, so celebrate responsibly and make sure your feline friend enjoys it just as much as you do.
