CUPA’s Doggy’s day out!

Pooches in Bangalore city had a blast recently when they all gathered at Compassion Unlimited Plus Action or CUPA’s dog show. They came all dressedup for fun to compete with other peer pooches and win many interesting titles. Each category had at least 20 participants who went around the ring displaying their talents.

The judges chose two special prizes CUPA Prince and CUPA Princess among all the entrants and these prize winners were seen proudly strutting around in beautiful golden yellow satin sashes. In all about 150 dogs participated in the show. The stars of the show were the Miracle CUPA Award winners, to fi ve people who had adopted dogs with physical disabilities giving them a new lease in life.

The show ended on a very nice note with the brave dogs of the Canine Police Squad, Bangalore giving a stunning display of their skills in tracking down criminals, sniffi ng out explosives, obeying commands, etc. The second edition of Doggy’s day out was a roaring success. By special demand the event will be back in 2010.

High energy food for Great Dane by Royal Canin

All breeds have different energy requirement, and Royal Canin has deep understanding of this fact. They will be launching a new food for Great Danes called Great Dane 23. It provides high energy levels (4450 Kcal/ Kg) and covers the nutritional requirement of the Great Dane without overloading its stomach. Royal Canin recommends that the daily ration be given in at least two meals, so as to reduce the risks of gastric dilatataion-volvulus.

WSAVA CE Programme

The Pet Practitioners Association of Mumbai (PPAM) has recently announced to host the ‘National Symposium on Companion Animal Practice 2008’ and the 7th World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Continuing Education (CE) Programme on November 14 – 15, 2008 at The Club, 197 – D N Nagar, Andheri (West), Mumbai. The chief guest at the show will be Dr Brian Romberg, WSAVA president.

The renowned speakers at the show will include Dr Colin F Burrows, professor of medicine and chairman of the department of small animal clinical sciences at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine; Dr Timothy Becker, diplomat ACVIM (Cardiology & Medicine); and Dr David Miller, specialist, (internal medicine), head, Ridgemall Specialist Referral Center, Johannesburg , South Africa.

The evening technical seminar on the November 14 will conclude with Royal Canin’s gala dinner. The WSAVA CE program is sponsored by Bayer, Hill’s and Intervet.

Protest against raids

Raising a voice against increasing number of incidents of ‘raiding’ of residential as well as commercial premises by People for Animals (PFA), Pet Lovers Association (PLA) staged a two-day protest rally at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi against PFA. The breeders and pet keeper protested against PFA’s allegation and called these raids “Illegal”.

Ashok Rai, PLA president says “People For Animals (PFA) is behind these raids with no reasonable cause. They have taken entire responsibility on their hands and raiding people’s premises without any wildlife offi cials or police personnel.”
