Profession: A Transformative Workshop by Punjab State Veterinary Council
In a resounding celebration of unity and progress, the State Level Technical Workshop on “Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness in the Veterinary Profession” was held at Chandigarh University, Gharuan. This event, which took place on September 28, 2023, brought together Vikas Pratap, IAS, Principal Secretary, Government of Punjab, Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Dairy Development and Sh. Rakesh Kumar, PCS, Joint Secretary, Government of Punjab, Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Dairy Development by Punjab State Veterinary Council.
The Chief Guest for the event was S. Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, the Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Dairy Development, Punjab. His presence underlined the government’s commitment to fostering a more diverse and inclusive veterinary profession. One of the highlights of the event was the inauguration of the Online Registration system of the Punjab State Veterinary Council by the Minister, which promises to modernize and streamline the veterinary profession, making it more accessible and equitable for all aspiring veterinarians.
Dr Lakshmi Srinivasan, from Hyderabad, shared her expertise, as did Dr Kallahalli Umesh, a Technical Consultant from Bengaluru, and Dr Swarn Singh Randhawa from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Their knowledge and experiences shed light on the path towards a more inclusive veterinary profession.
Dr Sangeeta Toor, Director of Animal Husbandry, Punjab, delivered the vote of thanks. Her words reverberated with gratitude towards all participants and a call for continued efforts to make the veterinary profession more diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Dr Gursharanjit Singh Bedi, the Registrar of the Punjab State Veterinary Council, delivered a warm and comprehensive Vote of Thanks, outlining the activities and initiatives of the Council and Department.
